2010

Well it’s about 1am and I’m still up, which isn’t unusual.  This is my quiet time, after the kids are all tucked in their beds and when I have the ability to sit and focus on my business and my personal photos.  I have a to-do list that I’ve been tackling for a few weeks now but slowly {and surely} am crossing off items one by one.  It seems though as one gets crossed off, another only gets added!  I can’t tell you how many nights have turned out to be all-nighter’s!  When I decided to venture into having my own photography business, I never imagined the amount of hard work & tears would go into it.  It’s truly been a challenging and rewarding experience and I’ve learned so much about business {and myself included} along the way.  I couldn’t have done any of this without the support of my better half.  He’s always encouraged me and given me a kick in the pants when I’ve been deserving of it!  I think all of us need someone to keep us in check and he does that for me.  Anyway….I didn’t intend for this post to start out this way but so it goes….guess this is what I think about at 1am on a random Sunday night {technically now Monday}.

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend and it sounds like our Memorial Day Monday should be nice.  I plan to get out and enjoy it with the kiddos!  My son can try and catch butterflies {his new favorite past-time}, his sister can follow behind on his shirt-tail, and my youngest can get her daily dose of rocks!  I don’t know why but she loves to stick rocks in her mouth.  She will randomly hand one to me but usually she needs to taste them first!  Unfortunately, we have a smorgesboard of ‘em so I can’t take my eyes off her for one second!

I haven’t mentioned any movie reviews lately and I have a few this week to mention.  Okay…the debate over “Avatar” and “The Hurt Locker” for Best Motion Picture should have NEVER been a debate-hands down “Avatar” all the way!  This movie was more interesting in the first 10 minutes than “The Hurt Locker” in its entirety!  “Avatar” was very well thought out, doesn’t leave you guessing or asking any questions at the end, was visually appealing, and the over-all storyline was very thorough and interesting.  The hubby and I loved it and plan to watch it again, even though it’s nearly 3 hours long.  I highly recommend it!  I also wanted to see what all the fuss was about for the “Twilight” saga.  I can see why this movie appeals to the teen-girl population.  Girl falls in love with boy, boy falls in love with girl and tells her everything she wants to hear in a mushy, gag-me sorta way {“I can’t breathe without you” or “You are the reason for living”}.  Don’t quote my lines but if they weren’t said exactly this way, it was pretty close and, in my opinion, were a little over-done.  We just recently watched the second one, “New Moon” and it was no exception to the first I described.  My husband just rolled his eyes and stated “this movie is a waste of my life and my sleep.”  BUT, for some reason he stayed up and watched with me.  So even a grown man who did nothing but roll his eyes and laugh most of the movie-couldn’t walk away from it!  So…I’m not sure what it is about this saga but even us “old fogey’s” are hooked on what will happen next!  “Eclipse” is next in the saga but I’m unsure when it comes out on dvd.

I came across this blog post  today and I wanted to share it with whomever cares to read this little ‘ol blog o’ mine :)  It’s a really great article about when is the perfect time to have family portraits taken.  The fact is, there is no time like the present and it served as a good reminder for even myself as a photographer;  photographing my own life and those I love in it.  I hope you read it and it makes you think about what you want to leave for your children/loved ones.  This article really hit home for me because after losing my father at the age of 8, I’m left with a handful of pictures of him that fit into a sandwich, ziplock bag.  I cherish these memories and am so grateful for having them.  The truth is, we don’t know what tomorrow or next year has in store for us….so ask yourself this question….”when is the perfect time for you?”  Even if you don’t pay someone to capture your memories for you….dig out your camera and by gosh, use it!  And if you are like someone very dear to me who doesn’t even OWN a camera {and at the same time has a house full of electronics}, then shame, shame and we need to talk!

Well I think that’s about it for the night…now that it’s 2am….6:30am comes awful fast!  Yes…I wrote that right…ALL 3 of my kids are early birds!  BLAH-I’M NOT!  In closing {and in the spirit of capturing my own life}, here are my early birds.  Have a great week!  Until next time…Live, Laugh, Love, & Photograph the ones you’re with {they’ll be grateful you did}
