Tidbit Thursday {“What Will Matter”}

Filed under: Uncategorized by admin

This is my first post in this series.  The “My Life Monday” posts have morphed into having more tidbits rather than snipits of my own personal life so I thought I would give “Tidbit Thursday” a try.  There may not be a post like this every week;  I’ll just go with the flow.  I get several magazines and I like to take bits and pieces out of each of them that could benefit others.  Some tidbits will be about photography, some about parenting, and some crafts thrown in too.  Basicly, a mosh-pit of ideas/tips/tricks/how-to’s.

For this first “edition” I’ll begin with sharing this:

 ”What Will Matter:  Character Counts” by Michael Josephson

Ready or not, some day it will all come to an end.  There will be no more sunrises, no minues, hours, or days.  All the things you collected, whether treasured or forgotten, will pass to someone else.  Your wealth, fame and temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance.

It will not matter what you owned or what you were owed.  Your grudges, resentments, frustrations, and jelousies will finally disappear.  So, too, your hopes, ambitions, plans, and to-do lists will expire.  The wins and losses that once seemed so important will fade away.

It won’t mattter where you came from or what side of the tracks you livev on at the end.  It won’t matter whether you were beautiful or brilliant.  So what will matter?  How will the vaule of your days be measured?

What will matter is not what you bought but what you built;  not what you got but what you gave.  What will matter is not your success but your significance.  What will matter isn ot what you learned but what you taught.  What will matter is every act of integrity, compassions, courage, or sacrifice that enriched, empowered, or encouraged others to emulate your example.

What will matter is not your competence but your character.  What will matter is not how many people you knew but how many will feel a lasting loss when you’re gone.  What will matter is not your memories but the memories that live in those who loved you.  What will matter is how long you will be remembered, by whom, and for what.

Living a life that matters doesn’t happen by accident. It’s not a matter of circumstance but of choice.  Choose to live a life that matters.

So there it is;  I think I’ll read this from time to time…just as a little reminder.  We all could benefit from reminders like these every once in a while.  Feel free to link this to pass on and share with others. ;)

We’re expected to finally get some spring-like weather and I’m so excited!  As we speak my two oldest are digging for worms;  with all the rain, they’re pretty easy to find!  Have a good weekend everyone and get out your sunscreen!  Wahoo for warmer weather!  Come back here next week for “My Life Monday” and a sneak peek of a children’s session I have coming up!
