My Life Monday | Everlasting Love

Well mother nature sure gave everyone a sucker-punch over the weekend with devastating tornadoes and blizzard conditions closer to home. I really hope, probably like all of you, that this will be the last of it and we can finally bust out the flip-flops. I think twice now I posted a “What-to-Wear” Spring guide, thinking that Spring had finally sprung…..not so much! Let’s hope for sunnier days ahead!
This week I was working on business stuff and sometime this week I’ll have new, beautiful session investment guide! It will include information on what to wear, session preparation, and of course investment information. I need to create a customized one for each type of session and that will take a little bit of time but I know it will be a lot “prettier” to look at than my boring, ol’ white paper with text document I have been sending clients! The wedding one will be completed first, followed by portrait session guides. Once logged in, you’ll be able to view this guide in a stylish flip-book online and of course, will be the first thing you receive when you contact me about booking a session. Yay! I’m pretty excited for everything to be completed!
This weekend I covered a 60th Anniversary event and I was able to see some classmate-friends too. In this digital age you would think people would be able to keep in touch more easily; however, I sometimes think the invention of Facebook, iphones, gizmos, and gadgets, has caused us to become more disconnected to others than ever before. At one time I was a big letter-writer; keyword-was. I’m equally terrible about emailing friends though too. Having kids sure does change a lot of things {then add on a business to that and a lot of things change}. I keep wishing for more time in my day but it’s not happening. I would be happy with super-woman energy all day long….wow, just think about what I could accomplish!
Anyway, back to this lovely couple that recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. WOW! Just think about all they’ve seen and experienced together. All the ups and downs of life…and through it all…love has prevailed. When I asked Ramona what the secret is to being married 60 years {my favorite question to ask those who have been married many years}, she responded “patience, lots of patience…..trust me.” Delmar, her husband responded “huh?” He obviously hadn’t heard the question and I never did get a response but certainly having a “deaf” ear with my own husband is sometimes called for-lol!
Here is a 10×20 storyboard I created that I think turned out pretty lovely. It’s on a white background so you don’t see the outline but you get the idea. 60 years…..simply amazing.
I think after you’ve been married past that 7 year “hump” you can relate and know what I mean! lol
I would say in my own marriage, almost 8 years now, communication and trust have definitely been key. Up until recently my husband had a job that required travel and if I didn’t trust him and we didn’t have that open communication, things certainly would not have been good. I’ve always been fascinated with couples who have been together a very long time. So much changes in the first 10 years, I can’t imagine how much this is true in 30, 40, or 50 years and beyond. And what a story a couple being together that long would have to tell. It reminds me of that movie starring Bruce Willis & Michelle Pfeiffer that came out in 1999- “The Story of Us.” Although they aren’t married a very long time in the movie, the dynamics of how their marriage changes over time is a story itself.
After having kids I’ve always wanted to document my own “Story of Us” in writing so one day our children can read about us, their parents, and the life we shared and knew before they were born and how things change afterwards. What a special gift that would be to pass on to our kids. Again, I need more time in the day or super-woman powers! It would probably go something like this though…..”before you were born, we ate out regularly, went to movies, went bowling, met with friends, had money, and after you were born-it was diapers, nursing, Netflix, food fights, date nights {ha…that’s a joke-what date night??}, baths, bedtime stories, sweet little hugs and kisses, proud claps for accomplishments and milestones, and more love in my heart that I never knew I could hold. Sounds like a pretty good story to me!

Well, this coming weekend wedding season starts and so more love stories will be beginning, the same way Delmar & Ramona’s started…with an “I Do!” Yay for love!!!
Have a great week everyone and you know the drill….Live, Laugh, and Love the one you’re with….if you’re going to commit to the same person for the rest of your life, you might as well laugh {and love with all your heart} along the way!
P.S. I’m sure you’ve heard the news-Osama Bin Laden has been killed and buried at sea. God Bless our military and the risks they take for the good of our country. I’m terribly saddened though that this is what our world has come to. I wish more for my children and their future and I ask “why can’t we all just get along?”
