Miriah’s Sneak Peek | ND Senior Photographer
Filed under: Seniors, Sneak Peeks, Uncategorized by admin
What a fun session!! Miriah was so much fun to work with and had a lot of her own ideas-which I love! The session flowed perfectly, the weather was gorgeous, and her mom was the best assistant ever! Really….I think she has a side job if she wants it! LOL!
She possibly saved me some money too with her fabulous catch of my light when the wind took it. Note to self-get some sandbags for my stand.
This was my first time working with a piano and although that sounds like a peace of cake, it presented some of its own challenges-like reflections. I had been told at the evening family session too that Miriah had wanted to pull the piano into the wheat field and I INSTANTLY had an image in my mind {think long, flowing red dress}. THAT, I believe, has probably never been done and would’ve been a one-of-a-kind image. And could you image that shot at sunset with my lights? Sigh…….so, if you change your mind S. family…let me know! You know I’m game!
I’m very pleased with the piano images we got though-Miriah rocked it all the same. And by the way, she’s a fabulous piano player. I think fewer and fewer people are playing the piano and I envy those that know how to play the piano and also the violin. I’ve always wanted to learn to the play the violin. Maybe I’ll put that on my bucket list!
One tip I figured out when trying to explain a pose or a movement for a senior is just say “think of an Ambercrombie & Fitch ad” and voila! Miriah knew exactly what I was going for! The more I’ve been working the seniors, the better I am getting at getting them into a natural pose. It may be surprising to know that I have an easier time with this with guys. I think it’s because there are few “poses” that work with guys and I think they naturally do what is masculine to them and also, guys tend to have more confidence. I’m learning quickly with girls though, and you would think being a girl myself, I would have a better way of explaining things-yeah, not so much! I find showing is a lot easier than explaining. So that’s how I roll. I’ve also realized that my pet peeve when I look at other photographer’s images is if the “pose” is unnatural-if it looks too perfect OR if it looks like a limb is coming out of their head or you can’t see the other side of their face or body at all or a subject that is too square in the frame. Working with these senior girls lately has really made me more conscious of all of this and also I’m shooting more with a purpose….get the pose just right, then shoot. If you’re a photographer reading this-trust me, this works. Let your subject fall naturally into the pose, instruct them to do what feels natural, then tweak it.
So enough with the blah, blah, blah….here are Miriah’s fabulous images {not to sound egotistical, but they really are just fabulous-MIRIAH FABULOUS, that is}!
I wanted to incorporate Miriah’s cell phone into the session, since she loves chatting with her friends on the phone, as most teens do, and I love how this turned out! Just a little Photoshop magic!
